Trading the world away

Free trade is the trade between counties without import taxes. The every agreement that is place between US and China. While this is bad for manufacture jobs or anything that can be traded. Its not a problem for America as whole. America is an Idea-based industry where jobs are created and sold to everyone around the world at the same time. Like software that once created it can be sold to everyone, while services jobs can only be sold to one person at a time.
The new middler is the person that can work a supply chain 24 hours 7 days a week over 7 continents. There are also other that make the new list like the great explainers. These are the people who can look at a complex process and concepts, brake them down into smaller simpler ideas than can be taught to the next group. These are the teacher of the world, whether they work in a school or in a company.

CQ+PQ=IQ the formula to finding the next generation of workers. Its simple curiosity quotient plus passion is greater than IQ. So when looking for your next employee its better to find someone that is curious and passionate over some one with a high IQ, because the person with passion and curiosity will get farther with their own willpower and own motivation. Than the person that has a high IQ with no drive.

Back to reading the world is flat and in this weeks reading its starts with the Triple Convergence. This is similar to globalization 1, 2, and 3.0. While globalization flatten the world and made it easier for everyone to step up the stage. Convergence is how it was done with what was flattening the world at the time. He goes into detail in the book about his personal story of how he bought a ticket on Southwest Airline and showed up early to get priory boarding by showing up early to the airport just to find out that the As went to the people that checked in from their home and printed their ticket from home. In convergence one we had to talk to a ticket agent to get a flight. Then in convergence two with the help of the PC from globalization, he now finds and buys the ticket himself. Lastly in convergence three he now finds the flight, buys the ticket and prints it all from home never interacting with someone from the company.
Later in the section it talks about India and Indiana. Were the state of Indiana puts up a bid for an upgrade of their computer systems and the best bid comes from a company in India 8.1 million under a New York company. So they go with them but as usual politicks gets in the way and they didn’t want a overseas company doing the work so the bid had to be broken down into smaller parts that local companies could handle costing more tax payer money. While its great that it created jobs for the local area  it cost the state more, and the India company was hiring locals to help anyway. So I think the government parties to help their personal gains exploited the India Company.

The last big topic is intellectual property. The idea that someone creates a idea and gets to profit from it, but at the same time you want other to be able to use it as well to be able to improve upon it. This is a tricky one cause while its great to create something and make a profit off it, it needs to be shared to advance the world and help all

Whats in a job

This week we had to interview someone in the computer/network field. Well it so happens that L-3 communication was on campus this week looking for students for co-op and internships. I met with them and found out that they are a Department of Defense contractor and create the devices that allow the armed force to rely information around the world to the heads in Washington. During the interview they said that they are looking for students in computer science for software development that goes into the hardware that they sell. running a various platforms from C, C#, C++,  and java. Just to name a few.  The starting pay for these jobs was great as well, for a Junior its around 19 and hour and a Senior can look around 22 an hour. Plus working with them part time (20 hours a week) they offer benefits of medical, three weeks of vacation and tuition reimbursement . All nice for a student , but that last one is great for those who dint get a scholarship and trying not to enter the working world in debt. So with hearing these great things about this company I looked up a little about the company. For one they are big with hiring veterans, great for me when I retire from the Air Force. They have employer people are happy at so much so that they had have a good amount around 45% that have been there for ten years plus. One was celebrating 40 years with them. The benefits are what you would expert from any major company. All in all the company looked to be a place that would allow growth and mobility with branches internationally. Or if you prefer they are just down in Salt Lake a quick ride on train
